Dietitian Iman O’Donnell has been struck off the HCPC Register for using her work mobile for personal calls and texts, incurring a significant bill for her employer, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
A panel of the HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard that Iman O’Donnell used her Trust-issued mobile phone for personal calls and texts. In a period of about two months, including time she was on sick leave, she incurred bills in excess of £2,300.
The Panel further heard that Iman O’Donnell first claimed her phone had been stolen, though she later admitted that she had made the calls and texts herself.
Panel Chair Ian Hughes commented:
“The registrant has departed significantly from the standards expected of a professional. The registrant knew that her behaviour was dishonest. Her misconduct was not a single isolated incident but was behaviour which carried on over a period of time… Her behaviour was a deliberate misuse of public resources.
“The Panel concluded that, although the registrant expresses remorse and a wish to repay the Trust, she has taken no steps to make recompense. In those circumstances, the Panel is of the view that the registrant demonstrates very little insight into her behaviour and has failed to understand the impact of her actions upon the Trust and public confidence in the profession.”
The Panel decided the most appropriate action was to strike Iman O’Donnell from the Register with an interim suspension order in place to cover the appeal period.
Iman O’Donnell was not present or represented at the hearing.
