    is anyone familiar with the exercises surfset/trx?
    I had a female pt, early 40s, who has plantar fasciitis, fairly normal gait, but it seems to have started with her doing these exercises for a few months, a few times a week?

    Not familiar with "surfset", but very familiar with TRX and can not see how that would have specifically caused it.

    Plantar fasciitis occurs when the cumulative load in the plantar fascia exceeds what the plantar fascia can take ... many of the exercises in TRX will add to that increased load; other exercises in TRX will not. As well as the standard treatment, just get her to avoid the TRX exercises where she is up on her toes. ie TRX is not specifically a problem, its just an exercise like many others that can increase that cumulative load.


    Added: I guess it also might depend on what sort of TRX routine(s) she using. If mostly aerobic, then using forefoot loading a lot --> that a problem for plantar fasciitis; if mostly using it for core type work, then maybe not a problem.

    truth is she told me that she was doing more "surfset " than trx

    In that case, have a closer look at the activities she does at part of surfset and get her to modify those that contribute to that cumulative load

    Plantar fasciitis management involves:
    1) Reduce load in plantar fascia
    2) Increase ability of plantar fascia to take load
    3) Facilitate healing

    You need to look at (1) and how surfset and trx affect that and modify it while you work on (2), then they can reincorporate those surfset/trx activities back as (2) works.
