If this is Chris Hyde from Birmingham School of Chiropody , I remember him for smoking a pipe and making figures of Yogi Bear and Boo Boo out of insole materials which he had "liberated " from the appliance department .He stuck them on the common room wall [ which was in the basement ] in order to brighten it up ---- got told off for wasting materials!

 

In this case:

I only met Chris a couple of times. He retired from LaTrobe just prior to me starting. I got his old computer. The IT dept did such a bang up job of deleting all the files before I got it, except one file ....all his Internet Explorer bookmarks .... they all were for steam engine websites! Quite characteristic from what I was led to believe! ;) He had quite a connection with Puffing Billy

 

Pretty special bloke was Chris Hyde. In 1979 he gave me a "second round offer" into Podiatry. I'm very glad that he saw a potential in me, that I was unable to see in myself. 30 years on - a bunch of patients, staff, podiatry suppliers and I have benefitted greatly. Vale.

 

A very special person, inciteful academic, great sense of humour (and dry wit), compassionate, and a motivating influence...he will be sadly missed.

Sad news indeed and heart felt sympathies to family and friends. I knew Chris from a distance but my lasting memory of him is buying me a drink for poking fun at a mutual aquaintance during a debate at the Adelaide Confernece - a hundred years ago.

Our friend had asked me why people took an instant dislke to him. To which I replied "It just saves time."
