If they can get more clinical evidence completed then I really think that this is going to be very helpful. Our patients will feel more confident in us "using maths/science" in treating their condition together with clinical observation and experience, as compared with clinical observation only. i.e. they have a value/"something" to work from.

I would also feel more confident in myself knowing that I am not only using my clinical expertise, but also a great proven formula (when properly researched) which will in turn benefit my patients greatly.

Wish I could share your enthusiasm, JaY.

Maybe I`m just a cynical English type, but I`m becoming increasingly irritated by the trend to classify every presenting complaint. Don`t get me wrong, I`m all for a staging system, or framework, for diagnosis and clinical decision making by recognition of disease signs and symptoms. However I fail to see how this index can inform our treatment plan in terms of predicting prognosis any more than clinical observation of whether there is matrix involvement or not. Quite simply the former requires combination therapy, the latter topical. Stating the bleedin` obvious (with some fancy equations and measurements) comes to my simple mind.

    Cheers,
    Bel

The majority of my patients like me to "show" them something or to "calculate" something for them e.g. ABPI. It lends a bit more credibility to my work so that my patients can be put at ease.

I must admit, having looked at those complex equations of SCIO I am not sure if I will actually have the time to do such a sum!
