In italy is becoming popular the use of foot orthoses to improove vascular diseases due to venous insufficiency!!!
I cannot understand how an orthosis can augment venous return through a better biomechanics!
Is it anyone how can explain it to me?
DO you think it is only commercial?

Of course they do. Did you not know that foot orthotics cure everything? ! ;)

It was suggested to me recently that foot orthotics can help this because of the impact of the contact from the arch of the orthotics has on the plantar venous foot pump (see this thread on the venous foot pump).

I have also had it suggested it could impact hypertension via the same method.

As for your question, I not sure it would help by improved biomechanics as the muscles would be working harder without foot orthotics, so I would have thought venous pump would be working better without orthotics?

Also a number of those with venous disorders, do tend to have some musculoskeletal symptoms in the lower limb and the foot orthotics may actually be helping them and not the venous problem.

  3. Which maybe making it easier to walk and exercise - which will lead to increase muscle usage and therefore better circulation.

But a direct device - better vascular function - I would think not.

I wonder which one of our colleagues practicing in Italy may well be behind these claims... hmmm...
