Podiatric Surgeons are genral on band 8a or 8b during their registrar training (depends on trust, and the agenda for change matching process, ironically AfC was supposed to remove the grading disparity but has actually as we all know increased it!0

Upon gain certificate of completion and obtaining a consultant contract they are they given a band 8d or band 9, again depending on location.

I know of consultants in London on band 8d and in East Anglia on band 9.

In all cases the consutants are on better pay under AfC either on 8d or 9 than they were under the old whitley contract, and of course it is necessary to have an NHS consultant contract in order to practise in private hospitals and to be reconginsed for reimburshement by the private medical insurance companies, which all consultants naturally wish to do.

Did any work under Whitley ? I was on MC21 (the old Medical Consultant contract) and chose not to move over to AfC as I thought it a dangerous move !

I don't believe that all podiatric surgeons wish to work in the private sector!

    Just an opinion,
Look around you at the shambles that is looming in the NHS with the commissioning and GP led funding of services :bash:

The private sector will win out in this profession in time IMHO despite some of the private insurance companies and commisioners attempting to cap our fee's.

If none of us take the nettle the scheme will fail because without podiatrists / podiatric surgeons there is no podiatry in the NHS or private insurance companies so it will evolve direct to us :drinks

    Good Luck
    Cheers
    D;)
