    Dear All,

In 2012, our podiatry Department @ Artevelde Ghent, Belgium will exist 20 years and we're going to celebrate this with a conference like we did 5 years ago.
We had a great program with 2 main international speakers (Kevin and Craig.)

The goal is to have an even better program (if that could be possible) that shows the evolution of podiatry (in all aspects) in belgium, europe and over the past 20 years and looking ahead to what our profession could be like in the future.

We've build up quite a network with partners all over the world for student- and staffexchange, and were wondering if we could use this opportunity to bring them all (and all other interested partners) together for a meeting/parallel program on how education in podiatry is evolving and if we could benefit from eachothers expertise.

This thread is started to see if other european or international institutions providing a podiatry education feel the need to organise such a meeting to exchange ideas, know-how, research etc.

    Kind regards
    Ken

    Dear Ken,

First of all congratulation for these 20 years !
I would like to think that your celebration could be a very good opportunity to bring together people from European countries where this profession doesn't exist [as for ex. Romania] ! How do you see this opportunity ?

    Sincerely yours,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel

Sounds indeed like an opportunity, do you have any idea how the situation is like in surrounding countries? (hungary, slovakia, czech republik, poland, ukraine, croatia, ...)
Let me know, i'll run the idea by the organising committe.

    Kind regards
    Ken

    Hi Michael,

Topic seems to be turning towards "Podiatry: Where do we go from here?"
Maybe you guys could be part of it as well as the swedish podiatry education is in "dire straits"...

    K.

  6. Correct, email me if you think I can offer anything to the conference.

ps could not let the Dire straits line go without a couple of tracks.

    Money for nothing

    Brothers in arms

    Hi Michael,

Not sure how things will evolve over time, but if we go with the plan mentionned above, I suppose we'll contact (future) partner universities to get a program together. The idea of a European get together sounds really good, to see where we stand and where podiatry will go to in the future.

what Dire Straits is concerned: "they rock!!!" :D:D:D

    Hi Ken,

As far as I know there it is no podiatric or podology school in this part of Europe. For example, considering Podiatry Arena like a representative forum for the proffesionals from these field and searching in the Member list related to mentioned countries and "Location" criteria, generally, you will have as results " 1 member" or "Sorry-no matches". ! Working for a while in the orthotic/prosthetic field I've had the opportunity to participate at the Ossur Academy from East Europe in Czech Republic , where I've met O&P practitioners from these countries. From discussions with them I've understood only Czech Republic has initiated in the last years an educational program at an university level in the field of O&P. In Romania there is such an educational program in the field of O&P, at a post-high school level. I'm trying to say that, in my opinion, in this part of Europe it is a need for educational programs at a higher level focused on lower limb pathomechanics, like podiatry is !

    Sincerely yours,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,

my name is Pierre i am a french podiatrist working in Romania Bucharest for now 3 years. It s clear that here nothing exist about podiatry just the tools with electronic platform to get a 3D print of your feet. There is just one medic orthopedist Doctor Tiron who is practicing podiatry and posturology in Bucharest. He is very good for diagnosis. i Am glad to hear that you get interested with podiatry in romania. I must confest that i get interested by shoes making especially for orthopedia.

If you need some material about podiatry just give me a sign.

    nu mai bine,

    Pierre

    Hi Pierre,
First of all welcome here on Podiatry Arena ! It is very interesting that Podiatry Arena could help two professionals living in the same town-Bucharest- to meet each other so I would like o thank to the founders of the Podiatry Arena for this opportunity !
I think the main problem here is the absence of a school in the field of podology / podiatry as an space where all thinking currents are objectively presented. Of course, there are some companies who has imported some technologies or some franchise systems for insoles manufacture but I'm strongly believe that them can not substitute the power of education generated by a school as we can see in the countries with a long and strong tradition in this field. One of the effects consist in the prevalence of a marketing language instead of one based on scientific research. It will be interesting to have the opportunity to discuss in a meeting regarding this fascinating field.

    Multumesc [Thank you],
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,

first thank you for your warm welcome on Podiatry Arena Forum. For sure hte main problem is in romania abour podiatry is that no one is teaching or trying to teach , even, in university, podiatry. I have a lot of patients coming to me for advices with their kids and guess what? Most of them are medic or pediatrist that makes me very sad. Fisrt we have to bring knowledge in romania, i allready talked with the french ambassy and Mr Arafat to see if there is any possibility for opening a master at university.

Then for the orthopedic parts with the insole customization, it is becoming very bad in Romania. As you said, there is no problem of technology because some firms allready have the electronic platform and the pneumatic tools for 3D print. The main problem is that they don t know how to use it correctly and dome peope come to me with orthosis not well done but with the best material. That makes me improving my technics and now i am no l onger working with this kind of 3D print because what is strongly important in Romanonia is the KNOW HOW and not what it s looking like.

i am coming in Bucharest on the 16 february. I would be glad to have a talk with you about the future of Romanian podiatry , and this time may be in romanian :)))

    ne vedem in curand,

    o seara placuta

    Pierre
