The date of July 4, 1776 marks the beginning of the United States of America. 231 years ago, the Declaration of Independence was signed by 56 men who had a vision of a great country. However, these same 56 men were putting their lives at risk by penning their name to the document that declared their desire for independence and for the creation of a new nation.

I, for one, am proud to be a Yankee podiatrist and greatly cherish the international friendships that I have made over the past two decades with like-minded podiatrists and researchers. I look forward to many more years of sharing knowledge with podiatrists and researchers from the many countries represented on this forum regarding the biomechanical function of the foot and lower extremity.
So for now, Happy 231st Birthday, United States!!
Footnote: Please note that in John Trumbull's 1817 painting depicted below, "Declaration of Independence", that John Adams is standing on Thomas Jefferson's foot.
Also another remarkable fact regarding these famous men is that both John Adams, the second president of the United States, and Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence, died within hours of each other, on July 4, 1826, exactly 50 years after their signing of the Declaration of Independence!!
