"Dr. Schmooze". Some people have got and some people have not got it. Some are schmoozers and some are not.

My first read of that is that it was funny, but then I thought about it and agree. Some practitioners just seem to "have it" and others don't. All I need to do is work out what "it" is.

I think #3. "Sponsor a team for a charity walk or run." is a great idea. You can get a tax-deduction while increasing exposure of your office & then take pictures at the event for your web site which can only help the reputation of your office in the community.

I'm not sure about the first two suggestions though. I know in NY a physician was actually prosecuted by Medicaid because he normally had a Chinnese buffet in his waiting room. Apparently you can not offer the patients something of value in return for coming into your office... as inane as that sounds. Clearly one lunch with 10 people or a magazine subscription is different from a Chineese buffet for all of your patient. Does anyone in the US (or any region) know what the laws are regarding this scenerio?

I think it has more to do with the STARTING POINT - self confidence and having an aura of calmness, thoroughness and quality. Once this is projected any commonality you can put forth between you and your patients (or whoever) reinforces any positive image they have of you.

•BUT it has to start with an initial positive impression.

If you are held in high esteem by someone and you discuss or mention something that you have in common, in a positive way, then their opinion of you will be increased. This is not a new concept, it's why celebrities are chosen to sell various products.

As far as schmoozing.......maybe a bit more one on one and friendlier, but a rose by any other name..........

    My 2 cents
