I wonder if anyone can help.

I had a reflexology client presenting with swollen feet which I presumed was a result of immobility and build up of lymph. She is wheelchair bound & suffers from MS.

Her main problem was on the heel of her right foot. It appeared very angry & inflamed (burning) surrounding an almost blister-like patch (which she said was very painful). It almost looks bruised in the centre. I have attached a photo taken on her carers phone. - apologies for it not being a really clear picture

My first thoughts were pressure sore but I am no doctor.

I used reflexology to reduce the swelling in the feet [which it did do] and improve colour to a more healthy tone [by improving the blood circulation in her feet] but I did not touch the right heel. Instead I recommended that she see her GP in case it required dressing/antibiotics. And also see the podiatrist asap.

    Any thoughts

Good call. Looks ulcerative with localised infection to me, so requires AB, sharp debridement and offloading ASAP.

    Cheers,

Great advice Belinda. Good thing there are reflexologists to catch these problems and refer them to specialists for treatment.

Anyone who finds themselves with a foot in their hand, whether they be a pod, reflexologist, fhp, pedicurist, masseur, etc and has a referral pathway for any presenting complaint beyond their scope of practice gets the thumbs up, IMO.
