Just lately we have been receiving quite a few single acting nippers with broken handles for repair and sharpening. The amount of force necessary to break the handles(just at the back of the hinge where the handle joins) is quite cosiderable even allowing for the leverage that the length of the handle allows. Most nippers have a small flat on the jaws which makes it easier to align the cutting edges when they are manufactured. This flat on the jaws actually crushes the nail and therefore quite a bit of force is needed to complete the cut.If the jaws are aligned and the hinge is tightened prior to sharpening then a very sharp edge can be put on the jaws which means when the two jaws come together they can actually be made to cut not crush.
Another comment I quite often hear is that prior to sharpening of nippers people(women in particular) get sore wrists when using nippers. This also stems from the flats on the jaws and the force necessary to make the nippers cut.If you have this kind of problem please contact us.

I have at least 5 pairs of clipper cracked at the central hinge point. These clippers are no more than 3 years old. The metal is S/Steel and is 3mm thick. None of the clippers have be misused in any way. Remember there are several grades of S/S and some S/S can rust under certain circumstances.

I find that most clippers/nippers & splitters break above the hinge and perhaps the SS is weakened by the sterilization processes that stresses them out over time.

German manufactures Miltex and K-Medic normally replace these instruments when they break.

Oddly, I've been lately using nail nippers made in Soligen dispensed by European Surgical Supply based out of Canada. (that husband and wife team attends most US Podiatry shows) and in the five years I've been using them have only once broken a hinge. I believe their Nail Nippers are the most outstanding everyday Podiatric nail nipper on the market. They tell me that if one breaks, they will replace it too and they're still waiting for me to send them one.
