Just lately we have been receiving quite a few single acting nippers with broken handles for repair and sharpening. The amount of force necessary to break the handles(just at the back of the hinge where the handle joins) is quite cosiderable even allowing for the leverage that the length of the handle allows. Most nippers have a small flat on the jaws which makes it easier to align the cutting edges when they are manufactured. This flat on the jaws actually crushes the nail and therefore quite a bit of force is needed to complete the cut.If the jaws are aligned and the hinge is tightened prior to sharpening then a very sharp edge can be put on the jaws which means when the two jaws come together they can actually be made to cut not crush.

Another comment I quite often hear is that prior to sharpening of nippers people(women in particular) get sore wrists when using nippers. This also stems from the flats on the jaws and the force necessary to make the nippers cut.If you have this kind of problem please contact us.
