    Hi all

So pleased I found this forum :D

I currently work in Occupational Health and over the years have become more aware of podiatry as lower limb problems are a common issue affecting fitness for work. I have suggested podiatry to many clients (many are amazed when i suggest it for recurring lower back pain) with successful results usually.

As a result of this (and an interest in ergonomics) I have become more and more intrigued with podiatry, particularly biomechanics etc, and have decided to take the plunge and am due to start training in September.

I am just slightly concerned about general employment prospects in the field? Are people struggling to find work or is it a secure job field from an economic perspective?

If you want to work in rural Australia it really is not an issue finding a job. You'd have lots of choice ( and often it's not really that rural). The cities are more competive but again I don't think you'd have a problem. At worst there are always tons of people trying to find locums.

If you want to work in Uk - some of my friends struggled getting jobs - but I think they all have now - some went into private practise but alot went NHS -but as Pods -I reckon we'll never be out of work.

Good luck in your new career.

I work privately in the UK and for the first year I still had another part time job. It took me a couple of years to really get a good list of patients. Don't expect to fill your appointment book straight away.

    Hi GoreyGirl.

Which uni are you due to start at in September? I will also be starting at the same time as you (I'll be going to Northampton).

My plan upon graduation is to spend a year or two getting experience and then get myself over to Australia. Can't wait!

    Hi

I'm going to Belfast; I'll be a "mature student" lol .. was one of the oldest in the room at the HPAT. I want to use podiatry as a way to forge a career in Republic of Ireland after spending 15 years living in London. Would love to head to Australia but with 2 cats and wanting to spend more time with family not sure it's going to happen......although maybe a 3 month locum post could be good .... if i can get my sister to take my cats :p
