Why would a pre-fab with added / deleted design feature(s) be any 'less comfortable' than lab 'custom' orthoses?
Have their been any studies to test this hypothesis?
The PodChatLive's podcast with the orthotic lab. gents has re-kindled interest.

I should have added that lab 'custom' orthoses are fabricated from non-weightbearing feet casts / images in relation to differences in shape to the shod foot and have a lot of modifications done to those casts by the lab which obviously alter the congruity of the foot-orthosis interface.

  3. It the right hands they won't be less comfortale. If we really look at things 70-80% of the population would do just as well with a OTC with or without modifications.

This ofc depends on the practitioer having lots of deferent OTC devices to choose from and they can pick the right population of patients. Ie which need custom which don't. Or the practitioner has ability to make good modifications.

And remember Simon's comfort is king. So if you go soft with a decent Arch form I recon you would have a pretty patient list.

Ofc lab owners are going to say custom is more comfortable
