    Any later figures?

    Gentlepods,

The following are some figures I dug up for a Uni project a while ago. I think they related to 2002 and I'm not now sure of the source(my filing system is not perfect!) Are there any later verified figures around?

    Regards,

    Martin

    Hi Martin,
This should take you straight to it.
    International Diabetes Federation

If not then type: "Foot"+"Amputation"+"Every 30 seconds" into google search.

Idf .org has lots of fact and figures about the diabetic foot. This site has some good links too: Foot In Diabetes UK

    Cheers
    John

It might be useful to consider Becker's Health Belief Model, when planning and evaluating care, as an individual's perception of their health needs vary for a variety of reasons; and this can impact on care outcomes?

    Re: Any later figures?

The numbers continue to grow despite the efforts of many clinicians. The main issue that i have been told is quite simply that the people who require amputations "have such poor circulation" that there is not enough oxygen and other nutrients and immune reponses cells getting to the wound site. From my experience over the past two years podiatrists who have been given our circulation booster have never used them on their patients " because it has not been proven to help heal wounds" While that is true it has been shown to increase circulation . The logical conclusion is if it can increase circulation then it has a high probablility of improving wound healing. Since it is FDA, Health Canada and CE approved for increasing circulation it makes sense to use it in the off chance that the patient will be no worse off if it doesn't work. It has already saved the limbs of the small number who have already used it. Myself included.
