I just got asked by a colleague about the Foot Health Professional register at http://www.footreg.org and said I would ask here.

Is this new or have I been asleep at the wheel?

 

The FHP register to which the quoted link refers is that of Stonebridge College.

It is a pale imitation of the original Voluntary Register of Foot Health Practitioners set up by the Alliance of Private Sector Practitioners - with none of the good intention.

By this I refer to the HPCs rules set out as the pathway to be followed by 'aspirant groups'. The Alliance made it clear to the HPC at its inception that it intended to pursue registration of FHPs by the published process, one part of which requires the establishment of a voluntary register.

This is why the original voluntary register was established and it is open to all FHPs, wheresoever trained. It is not for public consumption and carries no information of direct value to the public. Its sole purpose is to demonstrate that an aspirant group is capable of maintaining discipline among its membership.

Regrettably, the copycat version created by Stonebridge destroys much of its value. By its stated rules, the Stonebridge register discourages membership of a professional body and makes no requirement of its members regarding CPD.

This is not the case with the Alliance, who have very openly always advocated the value of involvement, professional body membership and professional development, and strive constantly to deliver quality in each of these matters.
