I'm new to the forum but not to the web. I practice in an FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center). These are nonprofit privately owned but supported through government grant primary health care centers.

Lest you think this is all about C&C let me disabuse you of that notion. There are two of us at CHS Hartford (http://www.chshartford.org) and for the most part we are integrated within the medical department, perform some surgeries and see a wide range of medical and surgical problems. I hope to speak more about practice in this growing and necessary arena in additional posts.

At the moment I am in Quetzeltenango Guatemala working with a clinic here (http://www.popwujclinic.org) and hope to mount a regular podiatric presence here in Xela. (more later). If you want more information feel free to visit my blog at http://irv.ourexchange.net

In another life I'm involved with an open source medical record and practice management system called FreeMED. It was in use, by me for many years and now is in its 0.9 enhancement. Open Source software is GPL and free (that's right gratis) to any who wish to use or download it. With its accessory billing system (REMITT) it will fully work in most office environments completely paperless. We recently mounted FreeMED in the Xela Clinic here in Guatemala and hope that it will propagate well in Central America.

I have a family and am politically and socially active and involved. I hope to hear from those of you who wish more information on any of those subjects or just to chat Podiatry. As always students, residents or fellow Podiatrists are welcome to visit our FQHC facility in Hartford, CT.

Much more to come if this arena stays active !
