The Australian Guidelines for which compliance is required by most of the state registration boards is available at http://www.apodc.com.au/infection/nat_infection_control.pdf

 

The Australian Infection Control Guidlines for Podiatrists is a superb document and could be so easily adapted for UK use.

I am aware that a Consultant Microbiologist from the UK has volunteered to do as such for the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists at no cost. As yet I do not think this kind offer has been acknowledged.

I understand that SCP already has written infection control standards in place but I am sure UK Pods will agree that this document is by far more superior.

Would like to hear views on wound healing and infection control in relation to MRSA and CA-MRSA and how you are dealing with it within your professional practice.

National Audit Office’s (NAO) 2004 report states that as many as 5,000 patients die each year as a result of health care associated infection (HCAI) and one of the factors in another 15,000 patients a year and states that at least 800 patients a day develop HCAI. Consequently this leads to increased costs of health care to health service and patient, by extending the length of time required to treat infection, ward closures causing longer waiting lists, pharmalogical intervention by antibiotics (leading to more resistant strains).

I have One big question, Is realy nessecary to use antibiotics for every wound on diabetic foot? I use in last few mont just Closing wiht silver with gread effect. Was it mistake? Or just my luck? Do we need to ude antibiotics every time? when thye are indicated...and thing abou all giudeline ...diebtic foot don´t ned do have exprimnation of sing on inflamation..... HELP , thanks
