The greatest Christmas film EVER!

Frank Capra really understood the spirit of Christmas.

 

having now read the article, I agree that the "thank you's" are so important. My Podiatry colleagues get inundated with biscuits and chocolates, I'd take the thank you's any day of the week.

 

Agreed! Well.. One of THE greatest Christmas films. :santa:

Miracle on 34th Street - fantastic memories of watching this film.

From a Christmas with the family point of view I would say the Snowman is up there at the top along with Home Alone which was a big family fav when the kids were little.

Never got away with Miracle on 34th, The snowman is excellent. Tonight, I will be going home to watch Home Alone with my kids, it will be their 1st time watching it. I still think Its a Wonderful Life tops them all off , in my opinion.

Don't you think that IWL is a rewrite, a pastiche, of Dickens, A Christmas Carol?

Dickens was saying repent of your mean life before it's too late because God is ready to forgive look how life could be now and after death and life lived in the Spirit of Jesus is so much more.

Capra says repent of your foolishness before its too late you've lost sight of the life lived in Jesus, the world has got you down but turn back to God (repent) and live a life in the fullness of Jesus, claim you right to New life.


Was that the Spirit of Christmas you were thinking of?

my own personal interpretation of the spirit of Christmas, is of sharing. George Bailey didn't share his woes with his friends and family, and he ended up on a bad path. When his friends and family understood his problems, thay clubbed together and shared their savings to help him, and that's the bit of the film that cracks me up. So for me Christmas is all about sharing, and is an excellent blueprint for all the positive things in life, a bit like this forum really!


My other Christmas spirit, is dark rum, so if anyones offering....................

 

"A Christmans Carol" with Alistair Sim is another one of my favorite Christmas Movies. This version of this classic tale, even though rather old, is the best one I have ever seen just because of the acting by Sim.

 

The amazing thing is, the young Scrooge was played by George Cole. Now George Cole is an old man, and looks like Alistair Sim did in the film all those years ago!

A Christmas carol, is a very close second, and best enjoyed Christmas Eve afternoon, in front of a warm fire, with a nice glass of something.

 

I do like Miracle on 34th Street also. Another very good one is Holiday Inn with Bing Crosby and Fred Astair, which I will be watching in a few days.

My guilty secret is liking the film "Elf".It is rubbish but it cracks me up , the bit where the dwarf attacks him has me in pieces.The part I love in its a wonderful life is when the drunk pharmacist , whose son has just died ,apologises for hitting George's ear

I just don't get "Elf" the kids lost concentration too, but whatever tickles your pickle, Merry Christmas

Best Christmas film ever... 'Die Hard'.

'Jingle all the way' a close 2nd.

 

Not a christmas film as such but an old one that used to get shown around then. Dickens "Great Expectations" with John Mills. Be interesting to see if the latest remake has the same atmosphere!

 

I can't say "White Christmas" was such a great Christmas movie. However my uncle , Dean Jagger, played the general in the film. He was a well known actor in 50s and 60s.
In 1950 He won the academy award for best supporting actor for his role in the movie "Twelve O'Clock High".
