question; a patient has severe callus formation from r/2-4 mpj after fusing the ipjs of the 2nd -4th digits why the excessive callus formation?

I would assume that something has changed in the biomechanics to create more loading through the mtpjs since there is reduces movement in the IPJ's (since they are fused) there is more joint movement in the MTPS's to compensate. (More loading there)
