NEW BALANCE FIRES UP YOUR RUN WITH THE NEW FUELCELL PLATFORM

Brooklyn, NY – May 16, 2019 – Coming in summer 2019, global athletic leader New Balance will launch a breakthrough reimagined product platform, called FuelCell, that is built to power up your run. The design team at New Balance slowed things down, to speed athletes up – taking the time to micro-analyze every 1/10th of a second of an athlete’s biomechanics. The idea is that if New Balance looked at everything in minute detail (data, form, shape, efficiency, custom fit, etc.) and by addressing every aspect, the sum of it all will make the athlete faster. The first FuelCell shoe will launch on Global Running Day, June 5th, 2019 with the FuelCell Rebel and continue with new iterations throughout the fall. The FuelCell line will range in price from $100 for the FuelCell Echo to $200 for the FuelCell 5280.
The new FuelCell formulation technology was created by the New Balance Innovation Design Studio with the goal that it would be used by athletes everywhere to make their fast even faster. The new FuelCell line features the highest rebound properties of any New Balance performance foam.
The FuelCell platform features four performance models:
    • FuelCell 5280: Speed without spikes, built from data from Team New Balance’s fastest road milers. The FuelCell 5280 features a multidirectional carbon fiber plate designed to flex and accept the runner at initial contact and stiffen for superior propulsion at toe-off. The midsole utilizes the highest rebound formulation of a New Balance performance foam on the market today, to provide superior responsiveness and data-driven shaping. A lightweight and highly functional Hypoknit upper allows for a high level of support where needed. MSRP $200
    • FuelCell Rebel: Made for runners who are ready to take their run to the next level, with energy return optimized, speed when needed. This bold new model features FuelCell technology in the forefoot to create a high-rebound but lightweight running experience. Inspired by learnings from Team New Balance’s fastest road racing athletes, the outsole features a distinct traction pattern designed for midfoot to forefoot strikers. The upper provides a lightweight but secure fit with a breathable jacquard base layer and Trace Fiber through the midfoot for security. MSRP $130
    • FuelCell Propel: Everyday energy return, speed democratized. The FuelCell Propel is built for a speedy ride, using the high rebound FuelCell midsole foam that delivers a unique underfoot liveliness and springy responsiveness that is needed to help runners beat their personal best. Designed with a comfortable Trace Fiber upper for zonal support and a lightweight solid rubber and NDurance outsole, this fast and fashionable runner is fit for wherever the route leads. MSRP $110
    • FuelCell Echo: Fast and stylish, a lower profile, more streamlined silhouette for runners that want to be quick on their feet. Designed with a TPU heel counter for performance lock down, this road runner sits above a supportive, full-length FuelCell midsole that provides the best in New Balance performance foam and energy return. MSRP $100 A special, limited edition colorway will be included in the New Balance 2019 TCS New York City Marathon Collection.
The FuelCell platform is designed for victory and provides speed when a runner needs it most. Runners looking for premium technology and speed, built smarter, can turn to the FuelCell line to fire up their run and help improve performance. FuelCell technology will be used in New Balance footwear from running, basketball and tennis, helping athletes change the game.
