Random question- what's a 'normal' number of patients to see in a month? A day? A week?

How many do you see?

Does anyone see any major fluctuation throughout the year- is it seasonal?





Ah the things one ponders in the wee hours of the morning!

 

Where are you located and what type of podiatry do you practice?

 

In Australia it seem normal to see about 20 pt a day in my experience only.

 

Drsarbes- I'm a student. I'm just curious as to the 'normal' and the variety.

 

I'm in the UK and find I get very busy in the summer months and quiet in the winter months. Last year it went quiet as soon as September started, this year has only just started to go quiet, which I put down to the weather and the state of the economy.

I've only been in private practice for 18 months so I'm still building a steady patient base. I generally see between 0-25 patients a day. I get a good mix of nursing homes, routine nails and callus in the clinic, home visits and quite a lot of biomechanical sports injury stuff at a physio clinic I work at. On days that I don't have appointments book I'm usually making orthotics or giving promotional talks to sports clubs and care homes/agencies.

 

Well, the practice of Podiatry and Podiatric medicine varies quite a bit throughout the world, so where you practice and type of practice dictates how many patients you might see.

Try not to work TOO hard!

In the States it is variable. I know podiatrists that see 20 patients a day that do nothing but cut toenails. Then there are the higher volume “toenail mills” where the podiatrist supervises several employees that do all the routine care. I also know podiatrists with surgical practices who easily see 50+ patients a day doing almost zero routine care.

If you decide to agree with “this is always a slow time of the year” it always will be slow for you at that time of year. If you manage your practice correctly you shouldn’t have any slow months.


It is your decisions and actions that will determine what type, how large and how busy your practice will be.

 

My "capacity" is 15 per day (8:30am-5pm, 1 hr lunch, generally 30 min appointments, 40 mins for B + C/TBPI etc)...I generally see between 9-13 a day which allows all paperwork to also be done the same day. If doing nursing home/domicillary I would see 10 residents in a 3 hour session.

Generally quite busy in December and very quiet in January. I work in a private practice in country Australia which does a fair bit of government-funded work (Enhanced Primary Care plans). :)
