    Hi everyone,

We are starting to get a number of patients with knee OA. I was wondering how people would prescribe an orthotic device. Would you evert like the Asics Melbourne shoe. How much eversion would you put them in?

    Warm Regards,

    William

I would evaluate the patient first with regards:

    1. Is it medial knee oa, lateral or full?
    2. The eversion only applies to medial knee OA and, is not effective in all these cases
    3. As it reduces the External knee adduction angle, then it makes sense that this will be more of an issue in those patients with greater genu varum
    4. I see a percentage that get greater tibial rotation associated with altered arch height (change in arch height/width or navicular drop / drift). In these patients, it is a more standard orthosis and single leg squats with and without the device can be a good gauge
