Can anyone tell me their experience with gout at the site of a large os navicularis? Have sent a patient for blood tests, as all signs and symptoms point towards gout, but wondering if the presence of the os navicularis increases likelyhood?

Hi Liz (again):

I cannot say that I have ever seen an acute gout attack localized to an accessory navicular. I've seen a few "global" gout attacks involving just about the entire foot and ankle, but none limited to just the Navicular area.

As you know there are several types of Accessory Naviculars, I believe only type II and III are considered intraarticular.

Have you ruled out the more common separated accessory navicular?

Blood tests will tell you nothing. If you still suspect gout, get them on Colchicine for 36-48 hrs ... if its gout, then this will work dramatically. .... but like Steve said, do not rule other things.
