    Looking at the typical recommendations among practioners you see some that actively prescribe stretching of the calf muscles. Also common is the recommendation for strengthening toe curls by gripping a towel on the floor, which naturally involves some dorsal movement of the toes just to get a grip of the towel.

    Given the anatomy of the plantar plate and farscia, nicely illustrated at the end of Kevin Kirby's post, this brings a question - will such exercises do more harm than good? Will it put further stress on the plantar plate and thus have the opposite of the desired effect?
