Hey Newsbot. Good story. BUT, I see you filed this under the tag of "Podiatrists behaving badly". Surely thats a bit harsh in this case. He should be applauded for his stance!

Dear All;
The great Nuclear Debate.
Do we or Dont we??????
In France 70% of power is Nuclear. The UK buys this power from France while argues the toss about replacing its own out of date reactors???? Hypocrasy surely.
In Uk
Sizewell A decommissioned, Sizewell B coming to the end of its life, and the natives up in arms about Sizewell C.
So answer get France to build more and UK will buy its energy from France.
Now that is clean energy policy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:drinks
Now here in dear old AUS we have wonderful environment friendly COAL POWER.
Now here in Sydney we need more power now.:bash:
BUT
no we dont want no Nuclear, Coal really is dirty but we have ****LOADS OF IT.:drinks
How about nasty Gas?
We have lots of filthy dirty coal.
Oh i know we can do a California and build enormous Soalar power plants in the large areas where 90% of Aussies dont live. Or even acres of loverly Wind Turbines again where 90% of Aussies dont live. Sorry they kill birdies when they fly into the blades.
Oh sod it we still have shed loads of coal. And our Kev is promising he can clean each and every lump of it.
each and every lump of it before we burn it.
So that is a no to NUCLEAR then.
Hang on we have lots of that nasty URANIUM STUFF TOO and we sell it to other nice countries that have nuclear power stations.
But hey we dont want no NUCLEAR POWER.
How come the lights keep going off here in sydney and the power is anywhere from 229v-259v and even loverly spikes that have fried friends home equipment.
Hey there go the lights again, and again, hey and again. Wow they are real bright oh now they are dim again oh hang nice and brig sorry di sorry brigh sorry dim again. Just like a Whore's Drawers.
But no nasty Nuclear stuff for us here in Aus.
Coal dont do no harm to our nice Chinese Customers, see records have been broken at Olympics so air is VERY PLENTY CLEAN. They want to build hundreds of loverly coal power stations too and buy our loverly coal and we have **** loads of it too. Nice little earner.:deadhorse:
See the dilemma we have here in aus?
regards a recent arrival to aus.
regards David -
Hi David :D
Having a bad day? :empathy:
This may be an odd view to have but here goes.
I used to be all eco-friendly, wanted world peace & tranquility & plenty for all.
Love the planet, save the world, was a banner waving member of CND for yonks. :boxing:
However, I am now so tired of having the Save The World gang telling me to walk everywhere, switch off lights, never ever, ever leave the TV on stand by (or your killing pandas & eradicating forests at the rate of a small country every day!).
I have taken the extremely selfish decision to no longer buy into global warming, deforestation, anti-abortion, anti- bloody everything Bono & Geldof brigade who rant at everyone for living life without giving their very last brass farthing in your pocket to one plight or another. :bash:
I am officially a bad person. I refuse to rinse before I recycle. I won't be bullied into switching my washing machine to 30% to save the world & the only reason I don't buy a bloody 4x4 is because I can't afford one.
My answer to saving the world is to no longer watch the news, buy newspapers or give to charitable causes who rattle their tins in my face or knock uninvited on my door.
Anti- nuclear power? Nah, can't be bothered so long as the lights work & I'm still paying the bills then why bother to stress?
Am I the only one who has reached saturation point with save this, save that?
Possibly.... :sinking: -
and what's the matter with nuclear energy???????
Oh yes, we need more wind mills and solar panels.
I guess that works if you're in a stagnant economy or live in a 3rd world country.
What ever happened to progress??????
Why has energy been equated with evil????????
Steve -
Hi Steve,
all the best, mark -
OK Mark:
Simple......if your economic pie gets larger each year, the standard of living improves each year, the population increases each year, the median income increases each year, then guess what - you are NOT in a 3rd world country and your energy needs increase.
If you wish to have a stagnant economy and standard of living then you have just decided that we have advanced enough as a people.
No. I'd do not agree with this. ANd all the wind mills in the world are not going to satisfy our needs.
I have never equated liberalism with logic. Never. Perhaps symbolism over substance, yes.
Why do liberal minded people always feel they are more informed and more righteous then anyone else?
Nuclear storage? Hmmmmmmmmm.
I would venture to say (probably correctly, although I am not a liberal I do get lucky sometimes) that HUMAN WASTE is responsible for more deaths each year then "leaked" nuclear waste.
Perhaps you can live without energy, but I rather like my A/C, computer, lights, etc.................................... And if you don't increase the energy available when the needs for energy increases WHO will decide who gets what?
Let me guess. Of course, the LIBERALS know best.
Right?
My 2 cents
Steve -
- governments taking an active role in promoting the freedom of citizens.
- favouring the right to an education
- the right to health care
- the right to a minimum wage
- favouring laws against pollution of the environment
- the provision of welfare, including unemployment benefit
- all supported by progressive taxation.
Sounds down right progressive to me!
Human waste killing more. Yes a poor reflection on non-liberal thinking guys in charge of the world. There too busy funding multi-national corporations (Halliburton comes to mind) whilst they wreak havoc invading other countries!
Yep the big question
Steve you really get off on this "liberals know best" thingy don't you
mark -
You make many good points - oh wait- those are the ones you copied from my post.
Nevermind.
I think, trying to read through and around and between the lines, we will never agree on some basic premises.
ONE: I view government as the "problem" not the solution. The less government interacts in my life the better. I do not need any help.
TWO: Progress is just that, progress. I'm sure many have viewed most industrial promotions as "racing towards doom" - from the locomotive to the internal combustion engine to refrigeration.
The glass half empty syndrome.
THREE: Humans are incredible. We can solve anything. We are capable of extraordinary things, both good and bad. Given the choice, most select good.
Steve -
Steve,
You missed my point, I was referring to your 'continuous economic growth' statement. As for industrial promotions the consequences, and resultant possibilities, of 'nuclear energy' terrifies/ depresses me for my children's future (and theirs).
-
An anarchist!!!!!!! hahahaha Not quite! More the Libertarian.
Realistic????? Well, a glass that is half full or half empty. Each description is "real" but which you choose tells something about haw you interpret your surroundings.
You may see a homeless person begging for change and fell sympathy for him. Someone else may feel as though he is wasting his life by making nothing of opportunities that have come to him.
You may see someone who is illiterate and think the government should have done more for that person. Someone else may think that everyone must be self reliant and self motivating and if you are illiterate it's most likely your own damned fault.
We all view these little pieces of life from our own relative vantage point. I, obviously, have never thought that the federal government should do something for me.
Getting back to the original question:
I'm all in favor of Nuclear power, also off shore drilling, alternative energy sources......

The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.
"Ronald Reagan"
That pretty much sums up my attitude. We are planets apart on our world view and how we see our fellow man. It's private enterprise that has achieved great things, not the government.
You've been living in a socialist society way too long.
Steve -
Steve, we are definitely on different wavelengths
Steve I've had enough, good luck, and all the best to you and your family, mark -

Ok Mark, thanks for the dialog. I always enjoy "butting heads" as long as it doesn't get personal.
I think we kept the bar raised.
Best wishes

Twin Falls doc convicted of trespassing at meeting -
hi steve, any interesting holidays lately, mark c
-
Hi Mark:
Not really. Spent a week in St Martin watching topless women and eating wonderful French food in November. I'll be off to St Thomas V.I. in January then Acapulco end of February.
Figure I better get in some fun trips before we get National Health Care and I can't afford to go!!!
We've been having an uncommon winter so far. Very cold and lots and lots of snow. Whatever happened to Global Warming?
And you? Having fun in this economy?
Steve
