Hi all,

I was just wondering if any podiatrists out there have treated a patient/s who are blind/visually impaired?

And if so, what have you used to communicate with the patients?

Are there resources to help with management of clients?

If verbal communication is an issue then I would request additional support from either the patient's carer or a family member. If the patient had no issues regarding hearing & understanding information although needed additional written information to confirm or remind of a treatment plan it would be best to establish with the patient themselves how they would prefer the information.

I produced two videos last yr for the final yr students on hearing impairment and vision impairment. I can't put them in the public domain, but email me and I can let you see them via dropbox or something like that.

One of last yr students took it upon herself to learn some of the signs for the hearing impaired that were in the video. They reported back on the feedback they got from a hearing impaired person and a translator about that ... imagine the credibility you have in that community as a clinician if you can do that!!!

On a unrelated note: I was very proud of the Arena'ettes and their class this morning as they sung and signed 'We are the World' at the school assembly this AM!!!
