Hi everyone. I would like to hear some opinions on post bunionectomy protocols.

I work with a local ortho. surgeon who wants to start using walker boots with a half inch heel wedge inside the boot following his bunionectomy surgeries. Is there anybody who has used or uses this protocol? I like the idea of the walker boot beause of the rigid rocker bottom, but can't quite grasp the concept of the heel wedge.

Can anybody help straighten me out on this?

  2. Hi Joe

I can see you have posted before so won´t welcome you again, I would post your question in the surg or biomechanics sections you might get a better response as not everyone looks in the indroductions.

Did the surg give you reasons for this?

It does seem a little odd to me directly post op as there will be an increase in GRF under the hullax which would cause a dorsiflexion moment at the toe. But I´m not a surgeon.

If you post it in the surg section maybe you will get some better answers.

    Goodluck

Thanks Michael. Not completely sure the logic for the wedge either. This was my first "thread starter", I am still trying to get the hang of it. I will try to post the question in the surgery section. Thanks for the response and info.

    Wish me luck!
