In the past I have worked and crossed swords with both of these men - worthy opponents in my opinion and many congratulations to both on well deserved, honours.

Marcel has been a tireless campaigner for podiatry all his managerial career. We certainly did not always see eye to eye but no problem there. I do recall having a big bust up over FCA curriculum in Brighton many years ago and I think both of us lived to see our debating points come to pass.

Louis's dissertation on the dissapation of local anaesthesia was a critical pivot in the application for recognition of the use of LA by chiropodists in the UK. As an educationalist, Louis was both insightful and gifted, and truely the health service's gain was podiatry education's loss, the day he switched camps.

As Madness sang, "Oh what fun we had," at the old Society of Chiropodists (London) Board of Studies meetings, with the 'Scots Corner' throwing the googlies and Lew and Mike Whiting (another lumenary) trying to field the questions. Firery but never viscious. Fond days indeed and for anyone who witnessed the happenings a lot of wine and cigarette ash was passed under the bridge. There was a lot to be said in favour of the less PC days when you came out of a serious meeting having achieved a lot of work and your muscles were aching with laughter. Ah, the good old days.
