research project..

I am researching podiatrists views and feelings on discharging patients from the service. Anyone have any comments? Has anyone read any podiatrey related literature concerning discharge policies? Would be grateful for any input.

Now this is a really interesting project - I can't think of any lit I've seen in the area (pertaining to Pods), but keep the forum posted on what you find Lisa, it would be fascinating.

I have not seen much research on this subject other than some papers in the British Journal of Podiatry assessing the development of foot problems after patients are discharged from routine podiatry services.
I am aware that a number of services use a needs matrix system to assess the patients podiatric and medical needs. Those with low needs in both categories are discharged ie social nail care. Those with medical needs such as diabetes, RA immunosuppression, ischaemia or have a podiatric need with ongoing, recurrent foot problems are retained.

I would suggest you speak to Wesley Vernon in Sheffield. They have done a fair bit of work down there on revolutionising caseloads, so would probably have some insight into what you are looking at.
