It has probably not gone unnoticed by most that the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (SCP) in the UK has been in the media more over the last month or so than it probably has in the previous year (which is obviously a good thing).

Here's the answer - a newly appointed retained PR agency which is in control of the SCP press office.

And who said that a load of monkeys were in charge there ;)

Wonder if they can hurry up the 'expected' new website as well then?

It's in the process of being built. What takes the time is the integration of the data base with the front end site. This is needed so that there is up to date info on the site when for example a member of the public is looking for a podiatrist - the member controls the info, so it's as up to date as the information updated by the member.....

The increase in media visibility has been the result of the SCP PR Committee and Director of Marketing and Communication working with the new agency.

Much of the hard work is done in-house by the Secretariat (thanks to one of the Secretariat we have brilliant foot health booklets online for download to the public/members) and by members of the PR Committee/Council who work with the press/journalists on an almost daily basis.
SCP has achieved enormous media coverage for a very small sum of money (in advertising terms).

Like I always say though...every patient/individual contact is a PR opportunity, and every pod can be liasing on local level to raise awareness of the profession for the betterment of the profession and also for the benefit of their private practice / NHS dept. If a Pod isn't doing it for themselves, don't knock those pods who get off their butts to do it for you.

I've heard a strong rumour from a reliable source that the new website will have a secondary domain attached to it (Podiatrists Online Open Portal) and this is what is taking the time - they have to register its new URL address etc but it is already taken. They want it to be a bit like the arena, where discussions take place and it eventually becomes a great learning resource for all. If the battle for the domain name goes on much longer they will go to plan B (which I think is to call it the Creative Repository Available to Podiatrists)
