I have had peripheral neuropathy for over 20 years. It started in the military in the 50's with feet nerve damage during basic training. I have high arches and should never have been accepted into service. Feet have hurt since that time. It is very painful to just stand and am limited on how much I can walk. Then around 1990, the pain expanded up to my legs, especially the calves. It took 12 years to get identified as Neuropathy. Then 2 years ago, a new type test revealed that I had Small Fiber Neuropathy or SFN. This is called the Painful Neuropathy. I have been taking Tramadol for 15 years now and has been quite effective but as the pain worsened in the legs, I am now also taking Neurontin/Gabapentin. This has been highly effective. I take 8 tablets of 50 mg of tramadol daily and 2400 mg of Gabapentin daily. The VA supplies the meds for me.
