Hi there,
My name is Rouby , I am planning to do bacholar of health science ( in podiatry) in AUT university and I want to know about how strong is this certificate 3 years later and what are the options for doing master...
Also,I read in the net that poeple who have PhD in this major can be a surgeon,can anyone clarify this point for me????
I am a saudi student and I am going back to work in my country after finishing my degree in NZ,as I have read in the net as well that there is a high demend for podiatrists over there ,anyone has any idea about the expecting salary for undergraduate student??

Congratulations on thinking about doing Podiatry. However you should consider other related professions just make sure it is definately what you want to do. After graduation everyone's story is different, in other words it is up to you as an individual to make or break your career endeavours. A Masters should be no problem for you to pursue. As far as I know you don't need a PhD to do surgery. It also depends where you train for surgery. At present the US and UK are your most straight forward options. However you need to decide where exactly to do your Podiatry degree as that will determine where you can do surgery, for example a UK or Aus or NZ degree will not allow you to study for surgery in the US. You have to do a DPM in the US/Canada for that, then you will go on to do a 3 year paid residency.
I have corresponded with a few Saudi pods and they have obtained their DPM from the US. They are doing surgery in Saudi. Not sure if UK trained surgeons are recognised to do surgery under Saudi law. Saudi does employ podiatrists from UK, Aus, NZ as well as US and Canada. You are looking at 12000 Riyals per month at the National Guard Hospitals as an example. Due to a high incidence of diabetes in the Gulf region, pods are high in demand although some uncertainty over scope of practice exists. However there is plenty of opportunity to develop the profession in this region.

how to obtain DPM??and how many years it's gona take me to have DPM and being a suergeon??
if I didn't do medicine how can be a suergeon(as the general idea for most people that suergeon has to study medicine first)???
dose the degree that I am going to get from NZ qulify me to complete my study to be a suergeon in other country like Aus or NZ rather then USA??

DPM you must go to US or Canada. DPM is 4 years, then 3 years surgical training. You NZ degree should allow you to train in Aus or NZ, but training is lengthy there and no public training posts. See if Saudi government will sponsor you to study in US or study medicine or dentistry.
