    Good evening to you all!
I am a recently graduated podiatrist from Italy and I need help to understand if and how the Hallux interphalangeal joint arthrodesis can modify the ideal motions during the propulsive period.
    Thank you very much,

    Olga

I don't think and arthrodesis of that joint will have any impact on the biomechanics during gait.

  3. Everything will change something. But I wouldn't worry too much about any changes they will be small

In absence to acute trauma to the IPJ, the most likely cause of arthritis of the joint is hallux limitus. I'm assuming that the fusion of the IPJ is being considered because of arthritis of the IPJ. Try rocker tip shoes and orthotics before the fusion and use them after the fusion because I've seen failed fusions caused by walking with a hallux rigidus.
