The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006

I suppose this will affect us all in the UK if we want to continue to treat children. Here are some links:

    www.isa-gov.org/Default.aspx?page=314#regulated
    www.opsi.gov.uk/ACTS/acts2006/ukpga_20060047_en_1

Apparently from next year we will all have to be registered. One site I looked at is suggesting registration will cost £64. Not sure if this will be a one off fee or an annual fee.

Apparently about 1/4 of all adults are going to have to go on this register.

    Hi Sue

Would we not already be vetted under the sex offenders and criminal records office which (one assumes) is carried out on registration with the HPC ??

I think the CRO check in mandatory now for anyone dealing with kids or vulnerable adults and each check cost around the figure you quoted I believe.

I also understand the check in mandatory for us to get professional insurance cover.

A little while ago I wanted to refer a grossly overweight child to a personal trainer who I know. He was unable to take the child as his insurance insisted he had the CRO check before he could treat children and for him the cost was prohibitive as he had always dealt with adults and this kid was a one off.

Just my thought on this one

( Hope you and Bill are keeping well, must catch up soon) :empathy:

    Cheers
    Derek;)
