I decided to form this offshoot thread to the "Use of unproven therapies in elite athletes" thread (http://www.podiatry-arena.com/podiatry-forum/showthread.php?t=100410)... of which is an interesting thread. However, I directed the thread down a path which isn't really related to the subject matter of the thread ("unproven therapies in elite athletes") when I cited the case of Maria Sharapova & her use of the illegal substance of Meldonium (which is a proven/effective substance - albeit, illegal).

Hence this thread - "Use of proven (albeit *illegal*) therapies in elite athletes". This is potentially a fascinating (& disturbing) topic (well, I think so)... particularly in light of breaking news in the world of athletics... like the following...

Everything You Need to Know About The Jama Aden Doping Raid That Took Place With Three Dibaba Sisters Being Present (http://www.letsrun.com/news/2016/06...raid-took-place-three-dibaba-sisters-present/)

Jama Aden is a renowned middle distance/distance coach... coaching some of the world's best middle distance athletes (including my current favourite athlete - Ethiopian, Genzebe Dibaba)... with links to many other world class middle/distance athletes...

Source: La Bolsa de Corredor and this YouTube video from Saturday of Aden's group training in Spain:

[Interesting training session... is it any wonder why Genzebe is a great runner... I really do hope she is "natural" (i.e. not drug assisted)... but serious questions are now questioning this]

The following is an interesting account:

The main drug of use here is EPO (crikey, these guys are already living & training at around 2000m above sea level)...

The following is a documentary from the Australian channel, SBS, from the program - Dateline. Titled: The Betrayal of Kenya's Athletes. The doc. is hosted by former Paralympian Ade Adepitan who also admired these athletes.

The SBS website is here which should show the video of the doc. as well as a write-up...
The Betrayal of Kenya's Athletes (http://www.sbs.com.au/news/dateline/story/betrayal-kenyas-athletes)

The corruption is apparently RIFE!... particularly within the organisation - Athletics Kenya!

In case non-Australians can't see the doc. footage within the above link (being an Australian site), the following is the YouTube link...

The following is a blog on the doc. from the host Ade Adepitan...
Comment: Doping has destroyed the god-like status of Kenyan athletes (http://www.sbs.com.au/news/dateline...ping-has-destroyed-god-status-kenyan-athletes)

For those not familiar with EPO (Erythropoietin)... here is the wiki article... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erythropoietin

Yea right! These athletes need help not to take drugs... to be helped not act in a known illegal activity. My sympathy & tolerance on such matters (i.e. cheating) is all but diminished on such a topic/activity! It will be interesting to see how the program works.
