We have just uploaded a video of our Australian made school shoe manufacturing.

To keep it short we have chopped out a few things , like you only see underlay skiving of one vamp, no back part moulding, roughing, sole production or cleaning but its enough to give you an overview.

We use New Zealand leather @1.6mm to 1.8mm for the uppers and 1.2mm leather for the lining, 1.1mm heel stiffener and a 0.9mm spring steel shank, they are built to last.

Hope you find it interesting and enjoy, feel free to ask any question if you have them.

I appreciate a lot your combination of practical skills in footwear manufacturing and medical knowledge !
When I've worked in a shoe factory a big problem was with forgotten nails in the insoles because for each one it was a penalties of 1000 euro.... So at a moment we started to attach the insole on the last only with an adhesive tape.
One of my favourite videos regarding footwear manufacture is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Re5lsgG7Qzo

    Thank you Daniel.

Our video is of our mass production footwear not Custom made footwear.
As for the "tacks", we have process that see us check in manufacture and at cleaning and again before the shoe goes on, we have tried the tape, but you sometimes get bit of tape sticking up in the toebox area and these are almost impossible to get rid of, tape is very time consuming.

We will see how we go about making a video on medical CMF later in the year.

But why is he casting, l wonder why he took a cast and made a Last when he could have just scanned the client direct? A lot less time consuming.

All that said, he is a very gifted craftsmen.

I'm waiting to see that video hoping to include more about special last's design and seamless lining for diabetic footwear !

I think he's casting mainly because seems to use a lower foot scanner. Now I understand he is working with a Dutch company probably you've seen at IVO 2015 ( http://www.chooseyourshoes.eu/stories/johan-steenwyk/ )

Yes we see them at every IVO, they even made the effort to come to the Australian 2012 IVO.

We have our own 4 axis mill and software for making the custom Lasts here ourselves.

At this point we have had some software written to streamline the process.
l have two brother that are software developers so its been very cost effective so far.
