Hi all,

I guess here would be the best place to get some ideas or suggestions from qualified podiatrists in the real world. I'm currently doing 1st year podiatry course in Australia. I'm a mature age student and had previously studied another degree which is irrelevant from allied health, choose to do podiatry as it involves a lot of medical knowledge.

From what I've been told, even though the demand for podiatrists is high, there are not many job vacancies. I've been thinking about what I can do outside my uni hours to gain an edge over other competitors in 4 years time. What qualities do employers value the most when hiring potential podiatrists? I'm considering to volunteer in either salvos store or health care sectors as I don't have any work references to get me start a job on part-time or casual basis.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

a bit of a background about why I didn't have any work references in case you are wondered:
When I did my first degree, all I concentrated back then was to get high marks and scholarships as I came from an international background, work references isn't something we would normally consider when applying for jobs. Now I do hope that I can get a chance to rebuild my future by preparing 'early'.:boxing:
