I think and suggest that all medicine relating to Podiatry should be removed from Chemist/Pharmacy shelves and be only available in Podiatry surgeries and clinics.
Podiatrists both (BScs and DPMs) should be given the only right to prescribe Podiatric Medicine
Its time all Podiatrists and students all over the world unite and make our profession recognised after all Podiatry really is part of General Medicine with the difference that Podiatrists specialise on the lower limb but the practice is more like the same as General Medicine.
You dont get Chiropractic ,Homeopathic,Chinese medicines in Boots or Superdrug so why should Podiatric Medicine be easily available.

What "Podiatric Medicine" are you referring to?.

Why do you think that Podiatric Medicine is part of General Medicine?.

    Only asking BTW.

  4. Made me smile. Sorry but in my opinion you are talking non-sense.

In an era of over stretched waiting lists and workloads you want to kick a man in the goolies whilst he's down?

Good luck getting anyone to agree with you.

What is your reasoning behind your point apart from protectionism?

    why?

You say that you want to be treated like other professions, yet why would you remove these medicines from general pharmacies?

I agree recognition is very important but this approach may further remove podiatrists/podiatry from peoples minds.

So many people do not even know what podiatry is:
"Do you work with feet or babies???"

I don't think this will help to make poditry and podiatrists recognised

I didnt mean for the remedies to be removed from the shelves but at least to be put on prescription thus giving Podiatrists more security and power
If i get a corn or verruca on my foot i dont need to go and see a Podiatrist because I know I can walk into any Boots Pharmacy and buy cream to treat myself and if i do not know how to use or apply the cream the instructions are written at the back of the tube so i do not need to pay £30 for consultation to see a Podiatrist buy rather spend just £1.99 for a small tube of cream and get better.
Chinese Medicine is available in Pharmacies and Chinise Medicine surgeries but before one can apply or use Chinese medicine they consult a Chinese Medicine Specialist but in reference to Podiatric Medicine its easy available without reference from a Podiatrist. In UK the term Chiropody was commonly used but not in other countries and if UK is starting to adopt the usage of the term 'Podiatry' then why ignore how Podiatry is practiced in other countries. Can a UK HPC registered Podiatists go and work in USA no there are certain standards you have to meet first in order to practice.
I did clinical experience in a Podiatric Clinic here in London and we would get 3 patients per week 5 if we are very lucky but go to Chinese Medicine Surgeries there will be a long queue of people waiting for consultation .Podiatric Medicine is not classified as an Alternative Medicine but then why is that Alternative Medicine is far much better than Podiatry as far as Practice in concerned.
Look at America Podiatrist are classified as Doctors of Podiatric Medicine and in UK as long as you complete a 3yr degree course you can register as a Podiatrist with the HPC then what??????? Many Podiatrists are leaving the UK why because there is better Practice in USA or Australia 1. you can advance to better qualifications,(Where in UK can one train to be a Podiatric Surgeon), the Profession has a meaning ,they have Podiatric Hospitals where a fully qualified Podiatrist with a DPM can work and practise .
How many Podiatrists are working in the NHS as im typing this text .
So to all those people who are saying im talking nonsense have you sat down and thought why Podiatry in other countries like USA.Australia and the Far East is far more advanced than Podiatry in UK and why the UK is loosing Podiatrists and full Medical Doctors and nurses ??????????????????? If you can come up with a good logical answer and explain i would swallow my words or if not at least i have talked rather that keep nonsense in your heads of which most of you are doing

If you want to spend your career treating VPs with acids, then good luck to you.

Many OTC remedies for warts are not exclusively marketed for warts on the foot. So why with someone with a wart on his backside, or hand be denied the right to purchase a possible remedy. To please you?. What would happen, if they were on 'script only, is that the profession would get Gps backs up, with lists of people seeing their GP to get a wart cream which they can no longer get OTC, to suit the ramblings of someone who appears to be disaffected with the profession.

If you can't change the circumstances, change your outlook.

    I did, never looked back!
