We all visit this forum to read, learn and contribute to all things lower limb, some are interested in MSK, some surgery, some Diabetes etc etc.

I was wondering if anyone like myself has any "extra-podiatric" medical interests.

Me, I am interested in Coeliac disease, as my 3 year old daughter was Dx aged 18months. She was a late walker, with a distended abdomen and underdeveloped musculature (due to lack of absorbing essential foodstuffs), and failure to thrive (FTT). It is something I always bear in mind when parents present late walkers to our clinic, and am fully aware of the frequency of neuritis symptoms pts develop with Coeliac disease.

So, what other non-podiatric issues are members engaged in?

I alsways keep an eye on what is happening in the autism and MMR vacine debate for no other reason as its a fascinating story and how the media spins it and how parents react to the spin.

I subscribe to Medscape's general medicine newsletter as it keeps you up to date on that. Not that we need to, but we have patients that have a range of medical conditions that they want to talk about.

At the moment ABDOMINAL WALL RECONSTRUCTION mainly because that's the next major Conference PORTAL Education is covering.

I am surprised how much cross-over there is. One may think that it has no relationship to lower limb issues, however the topics of antibiotics, ulceration, wound care, surgical techniques all have some relevance to the lower limb.

I will be able to tell you more in 2 weeks because I am actually going to venture over the the conference and see it live. A small step away for me as a Podiatrist, but interesting to see how the other half live!!!
