Hi everyone, i have a 16 year old gymnast who 8 /52 ago injured the L 1st mpj by landing heavily on the area during training.
gp xrays showed nil oseous, however 8 weeks later is still in sig pain.
ultrasound yesterday showed moderate thickening of the medial portion of the 1st mpj capsule,

she has not been training (gymnastics) and on her own has been wearing a moon boot for 6-8 weeks with relief whilst she is wearing however still painful upon removal.

how long would we expect a capsule to improve and how long before i refer off for a surgical appointment for further assessment?

my worry is 8 weeks post injury in a young person..

    TIA!

Not sure what surgery would achieve.

I would use strapping to restrict motion during activity and do lots of mobilisations.
