Hi all and I hope you might be able to offer some advice.

I have just finished my degree and am currently busy applying for NHS band 5 jobs via their website. I have applied for a few so far and have been offered some interviews but for the more competitive cities (where I guess more people want to live) I have not been offered an interview and am guessing that I need to make some improvements to the 'supporting information' section on the application.

Can anyone give me some advice or tips for what they are looking for?
I have been using the person specification and giving examples of how I meet the criteria and have tried to sell myself etc.. I have started thinking that perhaps it would stand out more if I list under headings e.g experience, skills, knowedge etc

If anyone can offer any advice then that would be great. It seems to be pretty competitive for the band 5 positions in the nicer areas of the country!!

    Thanks

    Suzie

    Hi Suzie,

Just wondered where the "the nicer areas in the country" were?

Maybe you should widen your search to look for work in smaller towns.

I've worked in London and now in a semi-rural setting and the work doesn't differ much between the two.

As far as your application I would always advise an honest approach and make sure any info you give can be backed up at interview.

    Good luck with your career!

    Cheers,

    Neil.

    Suzie,

I agree with Neil, irrespective of your location an NHS band 5 post will usually be pretty similar throughout the country.

Most employers will know what they are getting from a new graduate in terms of knowledge and experience, I'd say its key to show enthusiasm (thats one thing you will have that many long serving NHS Pods may have long lost).

Also show your willingness to progress your career (personal development, 5 year plan etc) and describe how this will benefit their department having such a vibrant, enthusiastic and motivated memebr of staff working for them

    Good luck and enjoy!
