    Hi,

Has anyone registered their clinics for Data Protection if so who have you registered with and where?

If you have a clinic with other Health Professionals do they have to register individually or does the clinic need to do this?

If you have more than one place of work will each site need registering?

Would be greatful to hear of your experiences as I understand there are many bogus companies out there.

    Thank you all
    Jude

    Hi Jude,

    In the UK:

    Data Protection Act 1998:

Under the Data Protection Act 1998 every organisation that processes personal information (personal data) must notify the Information Commissioner's Office, unless they are exempt. Failure to notify is a criminal offence.

You can find out if you need to register as a data controller at the Information Commissioner's Office website here:
    www.ico.gov.uk

There are some scams around. Don't be fooled by them- get the real facts from the Information Commissioner's Office.

    Hope this helps

    John

Thank you John I have registered now, they informed me: this applies to not only patient records but also if you write a letter, referal or a report that is not written by hand you must be registered.
