Around the globe there are dire warnings at the risks of wearing flip flops (sandals or thongs) and the latest relates to skin cancer.

Whilst unprotected skin is vulnerable to the suns' rays I am not quite so sure the latest fashion for flip flops has seen a significant rise in skin cell tumours of the foot as is suggested in many of the related articles.
