I have just needled a VP under LA. Is there an item number in Australia that can be put down (even though it's probably not rebateable) for the use of a local anaesthetic?

No there isn't. There are surgical procedural codes of which an LA is included. Given though for that you would have had a standard consult without a whole lot of consumables to me it would be comparable therefore why additional fee needed. That is what the consult fee is for.

I think there were a lot more consumables than a standard general treatment - 2 needles, syringe, ampoule of LA, 15 blade, alco wipes, sterile gloves, dressings.

Most are disposable though, don't forget to count the time it takes to wash, package and process instruments for general care. Then there is cotton wool, emollient, scalpel, mask, gown, gloves, maybe a dressing or 2, some felt, a toe prop or silipos ID wedge.

You can charge a miscellaneous (985) or non-code item if you really want to as it isn't a rebate attached. If you think about the dentists though, it's the procedure rather than the injection itself.
