    Hello,

I am a New Zealander finishing up a Bachelor of Health science over here. I am keen to get into podiatry but also wanting to get into the workforce quickly and am struggling to find work over here. I came across a traineeship programme in Canberra for podiatry assistants I thought this might be a good starting place for me as I could earn while learning. I was wondering if there were any other opportunities like this in Australia?

or are there any other Podiatry assistant qualifications and courses in Australia I have been looking online and seen a view but I want to find out how many courses there are and what are the best ones there is not such Qualifications in N.Z. also what are the job prospects like for a podiatry assistant?

    Julia,

check the Pod Board of Australia Website for approved Pod Assistant training courses.

These sit as modules within the Allied Health Assistant course and are available at various TAFE colleges around the country, google the HLT code to find who offers what.

Job prospects? A few hospitals and community health centres employ AHAs in podiatry departments, but it is usually not a full time position (they may be 2 days with podiatry and 3 days with OT etc.) The qualification is not a requirement for the job though.

A number of private practices also employ Podiatry Assistants, some hands on, and others providing support to the podiatrist, and as an addition to reception duties.
