    Hi
I currently work with very high risk Diabetic feet and am trying to locate a study course that may enable me limited prescribing rights such as Antibiotics for my high risk patients.
I recal a collegue in Uk completing such a coarse which was a great advantage in her role as Diabetes Podiatrist. However after several attempts at contacting Universities here in nz and in Oz so far these establishements have only been able to contirm that they do not do such a course with no info on who might.

If there is anybody who might be able to provide further info i would be very grateful.

    Regards SP

    Stephen,

Not sure if you are in NZ or Aus. But the PodBA, has approved several undergraduate and a few post graduate courses in Australia, that meet the minimum educational requirements to be a prescriber. But that is only part one. You then need to "show" your competancy in prescribing, through a period of supervised practice. These requirements are all listed on the AHPRA website, and work with the National AHPRA law, as well as the various state poisons acts.

If yo are in NZ, you will need to check whether podiatrists can have access to restricted medicines, then if that is allowed, what is the process.
