    Dear all,

For many years I’ve harboured a desire to undertake surgical training. I’m at a stage in my career now where I feel ready to take this on. Apologies if this has been posted before, but I wondered if the MSc’s that are available in podiatric surgery are now the formal prerequisite for surgical candidates in the UK? In addition, I am considering the course at Brighton Uni so would be most interested to hear any feedback from fellow pods that have undertaken this course.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Page23
As Far as I'm aware completing an MSc in Theory of Podiatric Surgery is the only route to becoming a podiatric surgeon. A close friend and colleague of mine has recently started at Brighton under Simon Otter. It's incredibly competitive due to the limited number of places but it's incredibly well taught from what I can gather. I hope this gives you a rough idea of what it's like. Sadly the colleague in question is not a Podiatry Arena user ( says a little about how much time the MSc takes up), but if you have any questions in particular you want answered I could relay them to the person in question?

    Dear LondonPod,

Many thanks for your input. Would your colleague have any objections to me having their e-mail address? If they are fine with this then you could pass it on to me via a private message on this site.

    Thanks again.

  6. Hello Page23,

I reside in Winnipeg Canada, and myself and my colleague are just finishing the MSc. Pod surgery at the University of Glasgow/Edinburgh. Found it very exciting and thoroughly informative, helping you to critically appraise/study. At times was hard :bang: with a assignment and exam(set out by the royal college of surgeons of Edinburgh), but it was well worth it :D.

I would have chosen Brighton (former graduate), but they did not offer the interpretive diagnostic Imaging course.

Both are excellent programs leading you towards a PG Cert. theory Pod Surgery ---> MSc. theory Pod. Surgery -----> PASSPORT system (replaces the OLD Parts A,B,C,D) -----> finding fellowship -------> consultant title......

I have a friend who is just acquiring his Consultant position.

    Just a note. Re above

The passport hasn't replaced the old parts a,b,c, and d. The PGDip has replaced parts a and b but c and d are still in place

  8. Sorry! my mistake......It is the PD dip. Its a new name given to the parts A--->D?:dizzy:
