Anyone had any experience applying sports tape to a low risk type 2 diabetic patient before? My patient wants to continue playing badminton, and I'm worried that he's at risk of ulceration. Other than correct footwear, I thought applying sports tape to the digits as a secondary barrier, to reduce friction may be useful. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

    ??

Remember when we use the phrase 'low risk' we mean 'low risk of a diabetic foot ulceration' so you need to properly work out his risk factor of low, increased or high and then provide education re footwear, sports etc accordingly.

If he is truely low risk then stats show he should be fine to carry on playing sports with appropriate footwear education etc

  3. Hi

Does the patient have callous on their forefoot and toes ?

    How much if so ?

If there is no or little callous build up I would not worry too much about taping the toes especially being low risk as you say.

  4. If circulation is adequate, there is no loss of protective sensation, blood glucose is well regulated and the tissue quality is of adequate thickness and elasticity I would go ahead and tape.
