Anybody out there being TUPEd into a new Social Enterprise Trust from an NHS trust? (PCT -> SET)
    How you feeling about it?
Anyone out there already in an SET which was a PCT?
    How's it going?

Not happy, but resigned to my fate here
    Words of comfort welcome
    Or fighting talk!

This is an international arena and I think you need to explain more fully what is happening within the NHS and how Social Care Enterprises are involved in taking over contracts to run NHS services. This will then give you a chance to explain what TUPE is.

Personally I feel that the Commissioning era within the UK is a golden opportunity for this profession to highlight its stengths. It is a shame that its one outstanding weakness is its inability to work together, cooperate and challenge the philosophy that is the Trade Union that dominates the alleged leading professional body.

    Ne'er mind.

Enjoy the tupe experience Hannahboss - the alternative could have been so much more rewarding, productive and given you a much better living longterm.

the physios at leighton hospital have been tuped . podiatrists should form there own companies / cooperatives and milk the golden goose but they seem unable to work together in a commercial enterprise so always end up salaried working for someone who has not got their interests at heart an ultimatly screws them if only we were abit more like our dental brothers and sisters,

There are a few hundred pod's in UK being tranferred from NHS trusts over to new social enterprises. These are sort of half-way house to privatisation - but possibly just the rubbish bits - such as having higher bills etc! Wonder where the boards will recover these costs from!

GB and Fishpod, please remember that if pod's wish to work in the private sector, they can. they can earn what they want.
Many people choose to work in the NHS - my job would be near impossible outside of the hospital system. I really am more concerned about how I can continue with the joined-up treatments of our patients with staff all working for different organisations/trust/companies etc. I am also concerned about how good this new company will be at winning contracts when the competition opens up in few years time.

I do not refer to Pods either wishing to work in the private sector or not. I refer to the transfer of employment rights, as in TUPE, from one business to another and how we as a profession should be leading the way in competitive provision of Podiatry Services.

Our total inability to work together as professionals is highlighted by the fact that no Podiatrists, to my knowledge, have actually got together to form a Social Care Enterprise to tender for NHS Podiatry Services. For those that wish to be employed, wouldn't it be better to be employed by those who share the same fundamental desires as yourself? To maintain "joined up treatments" for your patients.

I am guessing that you don't really understand the concept of business nor Social Care Enterprises?

'there are sheperds and there are sheep'

I believe the old saying is: Shepherds may change but sheep remain sheep !
