Hey everyone,

Im thinking about making the big move to the UK. I have a years experience and plan to be over there in 8 months time.

I was just wondering how I go about apply for podiatry jobs. Is it best to join a recruitment agency? are there any jobs being offered? :confused:

I have a bachelors degree in Podiatry and was wondering do i have to undergo any additional training to work over there?

And any other information you guys can give me would be much appreciated.

Hi BPW,

You ought to contact the Health Professions Council to see if you are qualified to work in the UK, but barring any restrictions on foreign workers, I'm sure you will be very suitably qualified. Private practice is best if you want to earn a decent wage, in which case, putting your name about on this site would get you known across the board, so get posting! I don't know how much capital you will have when you come over here, but I set up my clinic for under £10,000 last year, bearing in mind that I have my visiting patients to keep me going until the clinic gets busier. i wish you the best of luck.

Most UK pods are based either in NHS or private practice. Currently, the NHS is limiting employment to 'specialist' areas and pay is less than wonderful anyway. Other opportunities are in private care homes, industrial work and sports clubs but the the latter 2 are few and far between and payment in the former makes the NHS paymasters look generous! As Suzanne says, the best thing would be to build up your own business but this will take time. It might be possible to work part time for a colleague whilst creating your practice and this would give you a good introduction to the pros and cons.
